Background & Justification<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Uganda\u2019s climate and soils are ideal for hemp cultivation, yet the country lacks access to regionally adapted, certified seed varieties<\/strong>. Most hemp seed is imported at high cost, with inconsistent results due to differences in altitude, soil composition, and climate.<\/p>\n

Mwamic recognizes that seed is the backbone of any agricultural transformation<\/strong>. Without stable, traceable, and high-performing seed varieties, farmers cannot reliably produce hemp for fiber, seed oil, or other value-added products.<\/p>\n

This project aims to solve this gap by investing in local hemp seed research, breeding trials, and certification pathways<\/strong> to support farmers, researchers, and processors with access to quality inputs.<\/p>\n

Project Objectives<\/strong><\/h3>\n
    \n
  • Evaluate international hemp varieties<\/strong> for performance under Ugandan conditions (e.g., altitude, rainfall, soil).<\/li>\n
  • Develop and breed region-specific hemp seed varieties<\/strong> for dual-use (fiber & seed), fiber-specific, and seed oil strains.<\/li>\n
  • Establish seed multiplication plots<\/strong> for stable, traceable, and certified seed production.<\/li>\n
  • Collaborate with Uganda\u2019s seed regulatory bodies<\/strong> to develop national hemp seed standards and certification protocols.<\/li>\n
  • Train seed producers and farmer cooperatives<\/strong> in best practices for multiplication and storage.<\/li>\n
  • Distribute certified seeds<\/strong> to model, trial, and out-grower farmers across selected districts.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
